Adult Sunday School Classes
Beginning January 22, 2012
- Idolatry
Bob Beasley
The Bible is all about conflict. In the final analysis, the Bible is about a cosmic conflict between the true God and false gods--represented by idols. Although we don't think of ourselves as idolaters in this modern age, the truth is that our idols are just more sophisticated. Instead of the Old Testament gods like Dagon and Baal and Ashtoreth, humans nowadays are prone to worship Greed, Power, Sex, Comfort, Security and the like. Our idols are both far away and nearby. They focus and excite our sin. The class seeks to answer questions like: How can the idols in my life be recognized and dealt with? We don't bow down to graven images! How do we break the first and second commandments today? We'll look at biblical idolatry through the ages, and attempt to see our own frustrations and conflicts in a new light.
