A Portrait of Contentment, taught by Jane Derrick
FALL STUDY: September 16 - November 18, 9:30 to 11:30 am
- No study on November 4, election day
“…I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content…in any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:11-13
There is much time, money, and effort spent pursuing the “American Dream.” We think that in living the “dream” we will achieve success and security and at last be content. In our pursuit we often meet with a measure of success but soon find we are not yet content and the pursuit continues.
In the Bible we learn that genuine contentment cannot be found in this world’s dream – in the things that are seen. The truth is that genuine contentment can only be found in the unseen, all-sufficient treasure of Christ.
In a letter to the Christians of Philippi, the Apostle Paul speaks of the contentment he learned and enjoyed through Christ. The letter was written nearly 2,000 years ago but its truths are timeless and relevant for us today.
Child care is available in our Mother’s Morning Out Ministry. A donation of $3 per child is suggested. Please call the church office to register for child care.
